Tips from Shannon Kaye:
Antique Finishes

I like surfaces that age gracefully, like they have a story to tell. Who says trim and crown molding have to be white? Your room could have so much more character with bold color trim and an antique finish.
Step 1: Start by sanding and wiping all the trim you are going to paint. Then apply an accent color, such as yellow, to cover all the white.
Step 2: Once the yellow is dry, apply a layer of dark brown or off-black with a really dry brush. To do this, make sure there is very little paint on the brush and apply to the trim in long strokes so the color underneath shows through a bit. This gives it the antique effect.
Step 3: I like to add a touch of metallic gold to a detail for some glamour. And there you have it; you’ve added a lot of history in just a few hours.
